  • How do I choose between marble, granite, quartz, and quartzite for my countertops?

Choosing the right material for your countertops depends on factors like style, durability, and maintenance preferences. Here’s a quick guide to help you decide:

    - Marble Countertops: known for its luxurious, timeless appearance, marble is perfect for elegant spaces. However, it's more porous and prone to staining and scratching, making it best suited for decorative areas or light-use surfaces.

    - Granite Countertops: a highly durable natural stone that’s heat-resistant and less porous than marble. Granite is ideal for busy kitchens due to its resistance to scratches and wear. It does require occasional sealing but remains low-maintenance with a wide variety of patterns and colors.

    - Quartz Countertops: an engineered stone made from natural quartz and resin, quartz countertops are non-porous, stain-resistant, and easy to clean. They're a top choice for high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms, offering consistency in color and design.

    - Quartzite Countertops: a natural stone that resembles marble but offers greater durability and resistance to heat and scratches. Quartzite is a great alternative if you love the look of marble but want something tougher with lower upkeep.

Consider your lifestyle and how much maintenance you're willing to do, as well as your aesthetic preferences. Our showroom has samples to help you make the best decision for your space!

  • How long will my marble or granite countertop last?

Both marble and granite counters are designed to last for many years. Granite is extremely durable, resistant to scratching, and highly heat-resistant, lasting for decades with proper care. Marble can also last a long time, but requires more maintenance as it is softer and more susceptible to stains and etching from acids. In our experience, with the right care, both materials can serve you beautifully for over 20 years.

  • How do I clean and care for natural stone countertops?

Proper care and cleaning are key to maintaining the beauty and longevity of your natural stone countertops. Here’s a simple guide to keep them looking their best:

    - Clean Regularly: Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and a mild dish soap to wipe down your countertop. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive sponges, which can damage the stone’s surface.

    - Dry Immediately: After cleaning, always dry your countertop with a clean towel to prevent water spots or residue buildup.

    - Seal the Stone: Natural stones like granite, marble, and quartzite are porous and may absorb liquids over time. It’s important to have your stone sealed regularly to prevent stains and moisture from seeping in. The frequency of sealing depends on the type of stone, so check with your fabricator for specific recommendations.

    - Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Never use bleach, ammonia, or acidic cleaners (like vinegar or lemon) on your stone, as they can damage the surface. Stick to pH-neutral cleaners.

    - Prevent Scratches and Chips: Always use cutting boards and trivets to avoid direct contact with hot pots or sharp objects, which could cause damage to your countertops. Avoid dragging heavy items across the surface to prevent scratches or chips. Protect the edges of your countertops, as they can be more vulnerable to impact.

    - Wipe Spills Immediately: Especially with materials like marble, which can be more susceptible to staining, it’s important to wipe up spills quickly, especially from acidic substances like wine, citrus, or vinegar

Specific instructions for caring for each type of countertop:

    - Marble Countertops: Avoid acidic cleaners and use a pH-neutral cleaner to protect the surface. Marble should be sealed regularly to prevent stains and etching. Always clean up spills immediately, especially acidic substances like wine, lemon juice, or vinegar.

    - Granite Countertops: Clean with mild dish soap and warm water. Use a stone cleaner for a deeper clean. Seal your granite countertops annually to prevent stains.

    - Quartz Countertops: To care for and clean quartz countertops, simply use warm water and a mild dish soap with a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive materials, and wipe up spills promptly to keep your countertops looking their best.

    - Quartzite Countertops: To care for and clean quartzite countertops, use warm water and a mild dish soap with a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the surface. Since quartzite is porous, be sure to seal it regularly and wipe up spills, especially acidic substances, to prevent staining.

By following these simple maintenance steps, your natural stone countertops will remain beautiful and functional for years to come. If you ever need advice on care or maintenance, feel free to ask us!
